Beautiful, Healthy Skin without Chemicals
Although many products claim to prevent and even erase the signs of aging while moisturizing your skin, the vast majority of the facial creams and body lotions available in the marketplace are filled with harmful chemical ingredients that actually dry and damage your skin over time. Petroleum by-products such as mineral oil is often listed first on their labels, meaning it is the primary ingredient.
While it might make your skin feel soft and silky initially, mineral oil creates a thick layer over your skin which clogs your pores and makes it impossible for your skin to breathe. Not only is it a harmful, endocrine disrupting chemical, mineral oil attracts and holds dirt and toxic materials on your skin. Ultimately, any product containing mineral oil or other petroleum based ingredients, will cause dry skin and accelerate the signs of aging.
The aromatic compounds typically used in most skin care products are neurotoxins. Known allergens, they are toxic to your nervous system. When you use facial creams, body lotion, soaps or bodywash made with synthetic fragrances, you expose yourself and those around you to powerful, harmful chemicals. Even people who aren’t particularly chemically sensitive report discomfort when exposed to fragrances in skin care products.
Parabens, a family of harmful chemicals used to preserve skin care products and prolong shelf life, are commonly used despite being identified in cancerous breast cells and banned in other countries. Today, many “natural” or “organic” products have switched from parabens to phenoxyethenol as their preservative of choice. Although it is considered a less toxic alternative, research is showing that phenoxyethenol isn’t as safe as it was once believed.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate are inexpensive chemicals frequently used as the main ingredients in soap and bodywash products. SLS dissolves the oils on your skin in the same way this toxic chemical is used to dissolve the grease on car engines. It denatures skin proteins which causes dryness and irritation while allowing environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin. Bodywash containing SLS has been shown to contribute to a wide variety of endocrine disrupting conditions including PMS, menopausal symptoms, infertility and cancer.
